About the Nutrition and Foods Program

Welcome to the Nutrition and Foods Program

Welcome to the Department of Nutrition and Health Care Management. On July 1, 2010, these two programs moved from other departments and colleges to the College of Health Sciences and merged as an academic department. The department offers a major in Nutrition and Foods with a focus either on Dietetics or on Foodsystems Management.

Master of Science degree in Nutrition is available; this degree includes the post-baccalaureate Dietetic Internship accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Completion of the internship enables the graduate to sit for the Registration Exam to become a Registered Dietitian (RD).

The faculty members in the department are committed to excellence in teaching and strive to advise and mentor students effectively. In addition, faculty members are engaged in research to increase the body of knowledge in their respective areas. Research opportunities are available for both undergraduate and graduate students.

The faculty members are excited about this new era at Appalachian State University and invite you to check out these programs. Contact us if you have questions or need additional information.
